Alderperson Ron Gruett
Common Council
The Common Council consists of eight (8) alderpersons and is the governing body elected by the residents of Chilton. City of Chilton has four (4) alderperson districts. Each district is represented by 2 alderpersons. Alderperson(s) is responsible for representing the concerns of the district from which he or she was elected from, but in addition, they have a responsibility for the overall health, welfare and safety of the City as a whole. While an individual Alderperson has no specific authority, together as a group functioning as a Common Council, they possess all the authority and power invested in a local government.
The Mayor is elected at-large and represents the entire community. The Mayor serves as the Chief Executive Officer for the City who is elected at large to a two-year term. The Mayor is, by Wisconsin Statutes, a member of the Common Council and presides at the meetings. The Mayor may vote in case of a tie and they also have veto authority.
The Common Council meets regularly on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. and may call additional special sessions, as necessary. The Common Council meets at City Hall in the Council Chambers, lower level, located at 42 School Street, Chilton, WI 53014.
Citizens with questions concerning any aspect of City government are advised to contact the appropriate department, however citizens are also free to contact their aldermanic representatives with requests for any new legislation.
You are encouraged to attend Common Council meetings. All meetings are open to the public.
