About Us
Regionally, Chilton is centrally located within the Fox Valley - Bay Lake region. Within this region, Chilton is a wonderful place to live for families and people seeking a high quality of life. Within Calumet County there are a number of important recreation and tourist activities, which includes Lake Michigan, Lake Winnebago, the Manitowoc River, High Cliff State Park and Ledge View Park. These water attractions are an important natural amenity and focal point for the area.
Chilton's Uptown region is located within major crossroads, Highway 151 (Main Street) and State Highway 32/57 (Madison Street), which provides a steady flow of both local and regional traffic. At the heart of Uptown is the block of Main Street between State and Madison Streets. Dominated by historic structures, the appearance of this block of building facades has a strong impact on Uptown's image and viability. This remains Chilton's symbolic retail "main street." Historic buildings are lined through Main Street, Madison Street and State Street, which includes the Calumet County Courthouse, State Bank of Chilton, Chilton Post Office, Get Reel Chilton Cinema and Rowland's Calumet Brewing Company. One of the greatest developments for the Uptown district is the creation of public access to the river so that the community can enjoy this important natural amenity. This area also includes a 40-unit senior apartment complex known as the Chilton Uptown Commons.
The City of Chilton is also unique that it has a Downtown District. Chilton's central business districts - The Uptown and the Downtown - have been the center of economic, commercial and retail activity throughout the years. The Downtown District is known as the location of the original settlement of the city. One difference between Downtown and Uptown is that Downtown refers to the commercial business hub of the city, where we have manufacturers such as Briess Malt & Ingredients Company and Kaytee Products are located.
