Parking Ticket Payment

If you wish to pay for a parking ticket which occurred in the City of Chilton, payment must be made in the appropriate amount prescribed for the violation within 15 calendar days of the issuance of the parking ticket. Failure to pay your parking ticket within the 15 calendar days of the issue date will result in doubling the parking ticket fine amount, with the possibility of additional fees.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will suspend your vehicle registration and refuse registration of any of your vehicles if you fail to pay the parking ticket within 30 days from the issue date.

Late Payments: Parking Tickets payment schedule:

  • Original fine amount doubles after 15 days of the issuance of the parking ticket
  • After 15 days fine amount doubles a second time, but within 30 days of the issuance of the parking ticket.
  • After 30 days a $25.00 late fee, which includes a suspension fee is registered with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation .

If payment is not made within 30 days, a Wisconsin Department of Transportation vehicle registration hold will be placed on the vehicle receiving the parking ticket, which in turn will suspend your vehicle registration and refuse registration of any of your vehicle(s) if you fail to pay. Also, if payment is not made, the City of Chilton participates in the Wisconsin Department of Revenue Tax Intercept (TRIP) Program, whereby state income tax refunds may be intercepted for the unpaid amount.

 

Payment Options

  • Please include your name and address on the envelope provided. 
  • Make checks or money orders payable to City of Chilton.  Please write the parking ticket number or your vehicle license plate number on your check or money order to ensure proper payment.  Please do not mail cash.
  • Payments can be mailed or placed in the drop box (located by the main doors of Chilton City Hall) at Chilton City Hall, 42 School Street, Chilton.
  • Online payments are accepted or you may call City of Chilton Police Department at (920) 849-4855.  Convenience fees due apply to online payments of $1.00 for checking/saving account payments or 3% if under $100 for credit/debit card payments.

 

 Parking Ordinances

Sec. 28-37 PARKING FOR PERIOD EXCEEDING 48 HOURS: No person shall permit any motor vehicle, trailer, semi-trailer or mobile home in his custody to park or remain unattended on any street, alley, city parking lot, or any other public place in the city in excess of 48 hours. Any such vehicle parked or left standing on any street, alley, city parking lot, park or public place in the city in violation of this section may be removed by or under the direction of the police chief and the expense of the removal charged to the owner of the motor vehicle, trailer, semi-trailer or mobile home.

Sec. 28-38 NO PARKING PERMITTED ON SPECIFIC STREETS IN SPECIFIC AREAS: When signs are erected in any block giving notice therefore, no person shall park a vehicle longer than the period hereinafter specified either attended or unattended: See Chilton Municipal Code for detail listing.

Sec. 28-39 TWO HOUR PARKING ONLY: No person shall park any vehicle for more than two hours between 7 A.M. and 6 P.M., except on Sundays and public holidays and from 7 A.M. to 10 P.M. on Friday, unless a public holiday falls on a Friday, on the following streets when parking is permitted:

     (1.) On Main Street from the west property line of 203 West Main Street east to the east Center Street.

     (2.) On the east side of North State Street from West Main Street north of 108 North State Street.

     (3.) On both sides of School Street from North Madison Street west to North State Street.

     (4.) On both side of East Main Street from State Street easterly to the east property line of East Main Street.

     (5.) On the west side of State Street from West Main Street to School Street.

     (6.) On the north side of East Brooklyn Street from the corner of Memorial Drive easterly to the end of the street.

Sec. 28-40 CITY LOT PARKING RESTRICTIONS: No person shall park any vehicle or leave standing any vehicle or equipment between 2:30 A.M. and 6 A.M. in the City owned parking lots located off Main Street and School Street, however 24 hour parking is allowed in ten marked stalls on the east side of the City owned parking lot at 45 School Street and in ten marked stalls on the west side of the City owned parking lot at 35 School Street.

Sec. 28-41 TERRACE AND SIDEWALK PARKING PROHIBITED: No person shall stop or leave standing any motor vehicle or trailer over a portion of public right of way located between a street curb and a sidewalk except where parking in such area is specifically permitted by official traffic signs, markers or parking meters. When consistent with public safety, the board of public works is authorized to designate areas which shall be excepted from this requirement and the police chief or his designee are authorized to designate areas which may be excepted from this requirement on a temporary basis.

Sec. 28-42 RESTRICTED VEHICLE PARKING IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS; (a) Commercial, heavy and over-sized vehicles. The following vehicles shall not be parked or stored in a residential district, as defined in city zoning regulations, except when loading, unloading or rendering a service: (1) Motor trucks, truck-tractors, trailers, or semi-trailers; (2) Motor vehicles over 1 1/2 tone rated capacity bearing a commercial license; (3) commercially licensed trailers; (4) Motor vehicles equipped or used for the purpose of auto salvage (commonly referred to as a wrecker or tow truck); (5) Buses; and (6) Any other commercial vehicle or combination of commercial vehicles.

(b) No parking in front or side yards. No motor vehicle may be parked on any residential front or side yard except in a driveway or paved parking space

(c) Exception for school bus parking. Notwithstanding the provisions of this section, in order to facilitate the efficient transportation of students to schools, school buses may be temporarily parked in any residential district, on streets where parking is otherwise permitted. This section is not intended to authorize overnight parking of school buses in residential districts.

(d) Enforcement. Any motor vehicle parked in violation of this section shall be subject to no more than one citation per day and may be towed at owner's expense.

Sec. 28-44 PARKING ON TURF OR GRASS SURFACES: No person shall operate or park a motor vehicle on any turf or grass in any city park or publicly owned or leased land, except during special events if such parking is temporarily authorized by the city and the parking of motor vehicles on such turf or grass is in conjunction with the special event.

Sec. 28-46 PARKING ALONG PARADE ROUTES: The police chief shall cause to be posted prior to any parade approved by the city signs indicating the parade route. There shall be no parking of cars, trailers, or trucks along streets on a parade route approved by the city and delineated by the police chief

       Sec. 28-47 WINTER PARKING RESTRICTIONS: (a) Between November 1 and extending to April 15, no person shall park or leave standing any vehicle equipment upon any of the streets or alleyways of the city between 1 A.M. and 6 A.M. and alternate

       parking is required for vehicles in residential areas only. 

(b) ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING: Alternate parking is required for vehicles in residential areas only. Alternate parking means on even numbered calendar days a vehicle must be legally parked on the side of the street with even house numbers; on odd numbered calendar days a vehicle must be legally parked on the side of the street with odd house numbers.  The following restriction is in place on any vehicle between November 1 and extending to April 15.

Sec. 28-48 SNOW AND OTHER EMERGENCY STREET USE RESTRICTIONS: (a) Should the Public Works Director or his designee determine that existing weather conditions or forecasted weather conditions require that traffic be expedited or that snow plowing be carried out, he shall put into effect the snow emergency restrictions established by this section. (d) The Public Works Director may at any time during the year when snow conditions require, or snow plowing operations are imminent, or in the interest of public safety, restrict or prohibit parking on any streets in the city he deems necessary. No person shall park or allow to remain parked, any vehicle on any portion of a snow emergency route when a snow emergency exists. (f) Vehicles illegally parked, stopped, stalled or standing on a city street, roadway or alley during a declared snow emergency in such a manner as to prevent or impede snow clearance or removal may be removed at the direction of the Public Works Director or the Police Chief or their designees. The vehicle may be moved to an off street location, or to an auto storage facility within the city limits of the city where such vehicle will no longer prevent or impede snow clearance or removal. All removal, towing, damage and storage costs arising from the enforcement of this section shall be paid by the person or entity owning, controlling, or using the vehicle. The city shall not be liable for damage to vehicles removed, towed or stored as a result of the enforcement of this subsection.
